Four Hurst/Olds stolen during National Meet

Organizers believe thefts were a calculated “hit,” not a random crime.

Between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, four Hurst/Olds were stolen from two adjacent hotel parking lots during the Hurst/Olds Club of America 25th National Meet in Indianapolis, Ind. There were over 125 H/O’s in attendance for the Hurst/Olds Club of America 25th National Meet.

Organizers believe this was a calculated “hit,” not a random crime.

“The thieves knew about the show and the kinds of cars it attracted, they knew which cars they wanted, they knew what they were doing and they got us,” said Judy Badgley, an active member with several Oldsmobile clubs.

According to Badgley, it took them less than one minute to gain entry to a car, have it running and leave the parking lot. The thieves used a white crew cab truck and drove into the lot and parked like they were a guest. One person exited the truck and stole the car, then both left. They went back and forth from one hotel to the other, not raising suspicion. This was evident from reviewing the hotels' security tapes.

One possible thief was spotted among the cars placing calls after photographing each cars, as if shopping.
