Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum, which houses the world’s largest public collection of pre-war racing Alfa Romeos, is helping to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the iconic car. The origins of the Alfa date to June 24, 1910 when A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili, or in English: Lombard Automobile Factory, Public Company) was founded in Milan.
The Simeon is hosting a week long celebration June 19-24 at its museum in southwest Philadelphia, Pa. Events kick off June 19 with a Demonstration Driving Day on the 3-acre parking lot in back of the Museum, where cars from the collection are driven regularly for the public.
On display inside the Museum is “Cent’ Anni, Alfa Romeo,” featuring ten Alfas from the Simeone Collection, including the oldest Alfa in North America: a 1925 RL SS, the first sports car the company made. The centerpiece of the display will be the exquisite 1938 Mille Miglia-winning 8C 2900 B Alfa, one of only two remaining in the world. The display of cars will be supplemented with examples of rare Alfa Romeo sales literature and memorabilia.
