Time capsule: Celebrate Corvette’s 100th anniversary on its 60th
Mid America Motorworks’ Funfest 2012 to commemorate Corvette’s centenary with America’s Sports Car Time Capsule
EFFINGHAM, Ill. – Enthusiasts and Mid America Motorworks, the world’s largest supplier of aftermarket parts and accessories for Corvettes, will celebrate Corvette’s 60th Anniversary with a time capsule containing the country’s most unique Corvette memorabilia – not to be opened until the American sports cars’ 100th anniversary in 2053. The items selected for the time capsule will be showcased during Mid America Motorworks Corvette Funfest 2012 from Sept. 13-16.
To mark this once-in-a-lifetime event, Mid America Motorworks has commenced its time capsule hunt for the country’s most unique Corvette memorabilia and is seeking the help of sports car enthusiasts, hobbyists and brand loyalists. The company is looking for the rarest Corvette items to include in the capsule, ranging from key chains to artifacts; model cars to owner’s manuals; posters to vintage brochures; pictures with Corvettes and predictions or renderings of what Corvettes will look like in the future.
Owners of unique Corvette memorabilia, who are willing to part with the item for the next 40 years, are encouraged to send an email with their name, contact information and brief description, including dimensions and images, to timecapsule@mamotorworks.com to be considered for the 100th anniversary time capsule. Selected items will be announced the last week of August. History will be made as the time capsule will be sealed on-site and placed in an exhibition monument at Funfest.
“With this time capsule, we are stealing from the future while honoring the Corvettes of the current and past generations,” said Mike Yager, chief cheerleader of Mid America Motorworks. “This celebration represents the significance Corvettes have played in each of our lives. We want the fans that made the brand what it is today to really feel they are a part of the centennial anniversary, even if they won’t be around for it.”
The 19th Annual Corvette Funfest is scheduled for Sept. 13-16 at Mid America Motorworks' corporate campus in Effingham, Ill. This year, Mid America Motorworks will also celebrate the introduction of the 1963 Sting Ray. Other highlights for the weekend will include the Fun Run Road Tour, expert seminars, Corvette performance upgrades in the Install Dome, lifestyle products in the Fun Dome, a 5K run-walk, Celebrity Choice judging, fashion show and GM Kids in Corvettes.
