Kohler International Challenge with Brian Redman showcases Fords

July 16-19

This signature event was held on July 16-19 and drews over 1,000 entries for racing, touring and two Road & Track Concours d'Elegance evening events. The Friday concours spotlighted racing cars and the Saturday showing was for street cars.

An original Cobra owned by Tom Warth, the founder of Classic Motorbooks and Books for Africa, was a winner on Saturday night. When they called Tom up for his trophy, he was no where to be seen and his car got a little wet when a light rain concluded the evening.

Special Ford GT-40 marque festivities at Road America included a feature race, special GT-40-related guests and several exciting activities. There were Mustang corrals throughout the track. Historic Grand Prix racing added zip to the international flavor.

There was excitement on Saturday afternoon when the engine on a Shelby Daytona Coupe burst into flame on the track, but rescue personnel made quick work of safely ending the emergency and checking the anxious driver.

It will be a long time before we see another GT-40 event the likes of this one. Ford cut no corners to support this tribute to its "total performance" tradition and came away looking like a winner once again.
