Mustang goes ‘old school’ interactive in Chi-Town

Ford must be selling Mustangs like hot cakes because there was a bunch of Mustang activity going on at the Chicago Auto Show last week. A word that you hear a lot at these shindigs is “interactive” and what could be more interactive than an old-fashioned pinball machine?

Ford had a row of Mustang pinball machines set up in its booth, which was just inside the South Hall when the gendarmes began to let the press in. A half hour later, there was a writer, photgorapher, TV crew or social media person bouncing the old silver pellets off tiny clear plastic walls, lighted slots and Mustang models as points totals lit up on the scoreboards.

A few years back, Ford had Mustang pool tables in its display at the SEMA Show and I believe I actually saw ads for those in Old Cars Weekly (I know Michelle will correct me if I’m wrong on that point!) That got me wondering whether the Mustang pinball machines are going to be an item that you or I can purchase as a garage decoration.

So far, I haven’t found out if Ford is going to be selling the machines. None of the salemen manning the auto show booth seemed to know for sure. But I would keep checking out the ads in Old Cars Weekly.

If Ford decides to keep up its sideline in gaming machines and market the Mustang pinball model, I’m sure that more than a few car collectors will be interested in getting one.

A check of the Internet reveals that there was a Chicago Coin Mustang pinball machine manufactured back in 1964. It was a one- or two-player machine with a rather unauthentic rendition of six colorful Mustangs driving up a curved white highway with cartoon people looking on.
