New Jersey Reintroduces Bill to Expand Use of Historic Vehicles
SEMA Action Network legislative update:
Legislation (A.B. 2199) that would amend the state’s current law governing historic motor vehicles to permit their use for pleasure driving one day per week has been reintroduced in the New Jersey State Assembly. Under current New Jersey law, use of historic vehicles is strictly limited to exhibitions and educational purposes by the owner.
We Urge You to Contact Members of the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee (List Below) in Support of A.B. 2199
Under current New Jersey law, an "Historic motor vehicle" is any motor vehicle which is at least 25 years old and which is owned as a collector's item and used solely for exhibition and educational purposes by the owner.
A.B. 2199 will provide New Jersey historic vehicle owners the opportunity to enjoy recreational driving on weekdays in addition to the other sanctioned uses.
A.B. 2199 provides added incentive to owners of qualifying historic vehicles (more than 25-years old) to register as “historic.”
DON’T DELAY! Please contact the members of the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee to request their support for A.B. 2199.
Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at stevem@sema.org. Also, please forward this Alert to your fellow car enthusiasts. Urge them to join the SAN and help defend the hobby! Thank you for your assistance.
