Our last blog was posted in mid-August, but we’ve actually been sick since the last day in July. We made it through a month in the hospital and have a long recovery ahead. Things like this lead us to reflect on the direction our life was going in before reality caught up with us.
We have two buildings and one room in our house completely filled with old car and old motorcycle stuff. We have four MGs that are in pieces, even after some major investments of cash. We have other vehicles that need this and that. There’s not a real “show car” in the batch.
We have enough sales literature, magazines, parts and toys to choke an elephant. Shop manuals and paint chip books are everywhere. We have press kits, factory photos, old advertisements, scrapbooks and boxes full of outdated calendars. There are two trailers, four 4-post lifts, a rotisserie we never used and have no room to set up, four different systems for moving vehicles around, eight engines, two gas pumps and lots of other junk that it’s hard to pinpoint.
If we had not made it through the illness, what would happen to all this junk? We’re beginning to think we need to pare down the “collection.” Maybe we should sell a lot of what we have, buy one nice car (we dream of a ’53 Buick Skylark) with the proceeds and settle back to enjoy a simpler life. Then, maybe we could slow down and smell the roses.
