Did you catch the President's mistake in his speech to Congress the other night? He said something about "the country that developed the automobile" and meant the United States. As most enthusiasts know, German Karl Benz is credited with being the inventor of cars -- at least those powered by an internal combustion engine.

HOWEVER -- Our Standard Catalog of American Cars 1805-1942, written by the eminent automotive historian Beverly Rae Kimes (who passed away last May) credits a vehicle built in Philadelphia in 1805 as the first "American car."

I guess these facts depend on the source you rely on. Do you think President Obana used our book? Might be.
