The 14th annual “Antiques On The Bay” event, for all original/restored vehicles 1985 and older, will be held June 18-19, St. Ignace. This year the featured makes will be from American Motors Corporation. The event is sponsored by the St. Ignace Visitors Bureau, Hagerty Insurance, the First National Bank of St. Ignace and Kewadin Casinos.
The AOB show will be held at the St. Ignace Marina following the traditional Mackinac Bridge Rally, parade and a dockside reception.
An awards banquet will be held after the show. This year, Bob Stevens, well-known editor of Cars & Parts magazine is including the show in his farewell tour, with memories of the late AMC Vice President of Design, Dick Teague.
Bob Tagatz, Mackinac Island Grand Hotel historian, will talk about the magic of the “no vehicles” island of Mackinac, located across the bay from St. Ignace, and present the Best of Show winner with a two-night package courtesy of the hotel.
The following week, there will be a Thursday evening Kewadin Casino 17-mile cruise. Line up begins at 5 p.m. with the cruise leaving the casino at 7 p.m. Concessions, music and trophies will be presented upon return. Vehicles are selected by the casino staff members and owners must be present to win.
Friday night June 25 belongs to the 29th annual “down Memory Lane” parade with bands, floats and hundreds of collector vehicles, from 7-8:30 p.m.
The following weekend, the 35th annual St. Ignace Car Show sets up with the vendors early in the week with the actual vehicle display June 24-26. Eaton Detroit Springs will provide the top 40 plaques, chosen by the public. The show staff will review the winners to assure that vehicles are worthy of a “top 40”.
Feature vehicles will line the street, along with Bob Seger’s personal Mustang and a Pontiac Fiero club. Several corporate awards will also be presented. Chuck Miller, legendary custom car builder, will be the guest of honor at this year’s event.
The 2nd weekend after Labor Day, Sept. 17-18, brings hundreds of original/restored 1970 and older farm tractors under the direction of Owosso Tractor Parts. Up to 800 units will be in the Mackinac Bridge parade on the 17th, followed by a massive display at the Kewadin Casino on the 17th & 18th.
The Richard Crane Memorial Truck Show rolls into its 15th year with the huge display and the very popular Bill Hudgins and Wilda Dodson Mackinac Bridge “Parade of Lights” on the Sept.18. The big rigs will travel Main Street from the First National Bank to the NAPA store and on to Little Bear East Arena where there will be a vendor area and additional trucks on display. The LBEA is full of pedal cars and trucks and toy vendors, with the overflow lining the sidewalks.
The last event of the year is the 19th annual Mackinac Sales “On the Waterfront” show in the south parking lot at Little Bear. A car show and assorted vendors fill that facility Sept. 17-19.
The new book reflecting on the history of the shows “St. Ignace Car Culture” by founder Ed Reavie will be available at all show sites. Cost per signed book including tax and envelope will be $25.
