Bloomington Gold: Granddaddy of Corvette shows returns June 24-27
Bloomington Gold to be held at St. Charles, Ill.
For the 38th consecutive year, Corvette lovers will congregate in Illinois to celebrate all things 'Vette. The Bloomington Gold event will take place June 24-27 at Pheasant Run Resort 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles, Ill.
Bloomington Gold is the longest running continuous national Corvette show and thereby considered the 'granddaddy' of other Corvette events.
Bloomington Gold can trace its roots back to 1973, when a group of Corvette enthusiasts gathered in Bloomington to display their cars and swap extra parts with one another. They called it the Bloomington Corvette Corral, a one-day show on a two-acre section of the McLean County Fairgrounds. It was a hit from the start, with 1500 people in attendance, 112 Corvettes shown in the concours show and 19 vendors with parts and products at $3.00 per space. Spectator admission to the show was just a buck.
Relocated to Pheasant Run Resort in 2000, it has grown to attract thousands of visitors of all ages and over a thousand Corvettes from all eras.
This isn't just a place to look at Corvettes, there are also ample opportunities to own one. Eight Corvette dealers will be there with hundreds of new and used Corvettes for sale. In addition, Corvettes for sale by owner will be in a car corral and Mecum Auction will auction hundreds of Corvettes on Friday and Saturday.
This will also be the first opportunity to see the new 2011 Z07 Corvette on display, one of 500 to be made.
In addition to 'Vette buying and selling opportunities, Bloomington Gold offers educational seminars, vendors and a swap meet.
New for 2010 is The Great Hall which will celebrate 10 people and 10 cars that have helped shape the Corvette phenomenon.
Also in 2010, 75 of the best historically preserved originals of all make and model cars will be judged for the 3rd Annual SURVIVOR Collector Car event. Vying for the coveted ZZenith award, these cars are those that have escaped the restoration and modifications typical of most collector cars over 20 years old.
