COLLECTOR CAR PRICES ARE CHANGING

Gunner’s Great Garage has been getting a lot of appraisal work recently. With collector vehicle prices changing and insurance companies requiring appraisals, inspecting collectors’ cars and trucks to estimate their values is keeping me busy.

Another instance in which an appraisal comes in handy is when a relatively modern unit is collectible. Insurers need a little help figuring out which models and options fit into this category. Since I started writing in 1972 and continued there through today, I have a good amount of information, press kits and product literature on later-model collecter cars.

That’s why I stopped yesterday to check out a rare 1989 Shelby pickup truck owned by Randy and Trudy Vollmer of Kaukauna, Wis. It seems that their regular insurance company would not recognize this beautiful “Shelby-ized” 318 Dakota as anything special. Then, they found a company that will write coverage, but required an appraisal. So, I[‘ll spend some time coming up with a ballpark value.

In the past few weeks we have appraised a 1959 Edsel station wagon, a 1963 Buick Riviera, a 1967 Firebird convertible, a 1969 Olds Cutlass, a 1969 Pontiac LeMans convertible and now a 1989 Shelby pickup. So, you can see the trend towards newer collectibles and Gunner’s Great Garage is well-equipt to appraise such vehicles accurately.
