RM Monterey adds day to sell Alexander woodies
A historically significant collection of pre- and postwar wood-bodied station wagons will be offered at RM Auctions’ Sports & Classics of Monterey event at the Portola Plaza Hotel in Monterey.
The offering of the Nick Alexander Collection will see RM Auctions extend its annual Sports & Classics of Monterey event to three days this year. The auction action kicks off Thursday, Aug. 13 with the sale of the private collection offered without reserve, followed by a selection of other collector cars on Aug. 14-15.
Admission to the auction is by catalog only, which admits both the catalog holder and a guest. The catalog is available for a fee by calling 519-352-4575, or visiting www.rmauctions.com.
Ferrari at Quail Lodge
Bonhams & Butterfields announced the consignment of the collection of former professional baseball player, five-time World Series title holder, Hall of Fame inductee and lifetime car enthusiast Reggie Jackson to its Quail Lodge auction.
This auction takes place on Aug. 14 at the Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley, with a preview the day prior. The adjacent Quail Motorsports Gathering is sold out, but entry to the Bonhams & Butterfields’ preview and auction does not require a ticket and all are welcome.
Of particular note in the Jackson Collection is his 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spyder, chassis number 16835, formerly owned by famed motorcycle daredevil Evel Knievel who, after suffering his famous crash attempting to jump the fountains of Caesar’s Palace, was no longer able to get into the car and sold it to celebrated radio DJ Frankie Crocker. In 1997, Crocker sold the original-condition, Pininfarina-coachbuilt car to Jackson.

While the Daytona Cobra Coupe did not meet the reserve at Mecum’s Spring Classic Auction in Indianapolis, it has reached a post-auction bid of $7.5 million.
Auction cars will be displayed at the Hyatt Regency Monterey’s centrally located site while the bidding arena will be staged in a 10,000-square-foot ballroom. The auction is open to the general public.

Becker to auction pair of ’65 Shelby Cobras
