Bond revoked for former classic car business owner

Geoffrey Tyler Wood, Conroe, Tex., awaits theft trial

A former classic car business owner is back behind bars in Texas after violating the terms of his bond as he awaits his upcoming trial.

Geoffrey Tyler Wood, 28, and his father, Stephen Craig Wood, 68, were both arrested in August 2008 for running a classic car business in Montgomery County, that bilked over $1.4 million from buyers and sellers through Internet sales. Geoffrey Wood was in jail on a $750,000 bond, but the bond was reduced in March to $100,000 by the 9th state Court of Appeals. His bond was revoked last week because he violated curfew.

His father is serving 42 years in prison after being found guilty of his charges in April.

The Courier of Montgomery County, which has been following the case, reported that the father and son allegedly conducted illegal transactions involving improper documentation, failed to deliver vehicles for which they were paid, failed to pay owners when their vehicles were sold and wrote checks to customers that were returned for insufficient funds.

The initial investigation involved around 13 vehicles valued at approximately $517,920. Additional complaints were filed after records from the business were seized in fall 2008 by the Montgomery Sheriff's Office Auto Theft Task Force and the business was closed. Complaints of fraudulent Internet sales were filed from multiple buyers in the U.S. and in several foreign countries including Saudi Arabia, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Norway, New Zealand, Australia, and Belgium.

The former business, American Classic Cars was located at 800 West Davis, Conroe, Texas, and was not associated with another business in the area with a similar name.
