Cadillac pulls the plug on XLR model

A General Motors Corp. spokeswoman says the company plans to stop producing the Cadillac XLR.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — A General Motors Corp. spokeswoman says the company plans to stop producing the Cadillac XLR. Sharon Basel told The Daily News of Bowling Green that production of the Cadillac XLR is expected to cease in the spring and would impact about 40 employees.

Plant manager Paul Graham said workers dedicated to XLR production likely would be laid off in the spring. Basel said GM decided to eliminate the vehicle after a year of slipping sales. Basel said about 1,250 XLRs were sold in 2008, a decrease of 28 percent compared to 2007.

The vehicle is made at GM’s Bowling Green plant, along with the Corvette. The plant is closed until Feb. 23 because of GM’s financial woes.
