On Friday, August 26, 2016, the Post Falls (Idaho) Police department organized an escorted car cruise through the City of Post Falls. Cruises like this are organized each year prior to the Cops-n-Kids & Rodders-n-More Open House as a way to bring in the open house event, and so that out of town visitors can view the city. This has always been a popular event, but each year participants ask if the cruises can be extended to other summer months. John Bujosa, who helped create the Cops-n-Kids & Rodders-n-More open house event, proposed the idea of a cruise to Chief Haug with the thought of having a monthly escorted cruise to various parts of the city and outlining areas. The Chief liked the idea and Cruising With The Cops was born.
The first official Cruising With The Cops took place in mid-September. Ten vehicles attended the cruise but many more contacted John wanting to know of the next cruise, which at this writing is scheduled for the end of September. John escorted the group through Post Falls stopping occasionally for photo opportunities, and taking routes where emergency vehicles in the cruise could turn on their equipment without disrupting traffic. The cruise ended at Nate’s New York Pizza where participants enjoyed New York style pizza.
The cruise was short, running approximately sixteen miles and forty-five minutes in length. Rain had threatened to put a damper on the cruise but by cruise time, 6:30pm, the skies had cleared and the cruise was met with a beautiful sunset.
Cruising With The Cops is unique in that it is an on-going cruise, escorted and supported by the Post Falls Police department. Local and neighboring agencies are supporting the event and inviting the cruise to and thru their town. The cruise is anticipated to start back up in April of 2017 and run through September of 2017, with each cruise taking a different route each month.
The cruises will be announced in the Post Falls Police department website, www.postfallspolice.com, as well as a special Facebook page created for the cruise called Cruising With The Cops – Post Falls. All classic, muscle cars, trucks, motorcycles, and specialty vehicle are invited to join in this fun cruise.
