A newly designed stamp series, "America on the Move : '50s Fins and Chrome,' will be officially previewed April, 25 at the Spring Carlisle Collector Car Swap Meet & Car Corral.
The U.S. Postal Service is paying tribute to America’s love affair with the automobile by issuing the “America on the Move: ‘50s Fins and Chrome” stamps.
A 10 ft. image of the stamps—a 1957 Chrysler 300C, 1957 Lincoln Premiere, 1957 Pontiac Safari, 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk and a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado—will be previewed to the nation for the first time during this special ceremony. The first-day-of-issue stamp dedication ceremony will take place Oct. 3.
The Postal Service inaugurated the series in 2005 by issuing the “America on the Move: Sporty Cars of the ‘50s” stamps. The stamp pane depicted a 1952 Nash Healey, 1953 Chevrolet Corvette, 1953 Studebaker Starliner, 1954 Kaiser Darrin and a 1955 Ford Thunderbird.
The Postal Service receives about 50,000 suggestions for stamp ideas each year, yet only 20 subjects make the cut.
