Flint gears up for Back to the Bricks

Publish date:

Thousands of classic cars are already cruising the streets of downtown Flint, Mich., this week as Back to the Bricks week gets under way. More than 500,000 people expected for the eighth annual event, which already boasts 50,000 cars registered this year.

Activities for the Aug. 14-18 "street party" include a car corral, swap meet, drive-in theater, rolling cruises, live entertainment and, of course, the big car show Friday and Saturday.

A highlight this year is a national Corvette reunion. Organizers hope this year's Back to the Bricks festival will be biggest local Corvette reunion yet, with over 1,000 of the iconic American cars. About 300 Corvette owners showed up for the Bricks festival in 2010, followed by about 800 at last year's fest. The Corvette events begin on Aug. 17 with club member meet-and-greet activities. On Aug. 18, the Corvettes will be parked between First Avenue and Fifth Avenue along Saginaw Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard.
